About TBirds

Welcome to TBirds!

Teignmouth Thunderbirds (TBirds) Netball Club CASC is grassroots community not for profit club charity number CH10866 – one of very few nationwide.

Almost 10 years old, TBirds was born from an idea by local resident Angela Rimmer (Coach Ange) to offer fun, local, affordable, netball sessions to likeminded women and girls (over 14yrs) in the Teignbridge community. In 2023-2024 Season, our Club currently has 3 x Level 2 professionally qualified UKCC Netball Qualified Coaches to support our registered England Netball players. Our club is proud of our 2 teams who play in Exeter & District Netball League (EDNL).

A Back to Netball player and UKCC Level 2 coach, Angela was keen to volunteer the opportunity to participate in netball to local women, in a safe, fun environment to boost confidence and skills without fear of judgement. Local sessions began in January 2015 and Teignmouth Thunderbirds (TBirds) Netball Club was registered with England Netball in May 2015. Our Club has developed over the years and we've welcomed a few hundred players back to netball. We're proud to have been recognised for our community engagement and awarded for our coaching excellence. Coach Ange won the Teignbridge Sports Personality of the Year Awards 2015 for Community Services to Sport and was one of only 4 finalist nominees in the England Netball South West Goalden Globe Awards ’16, ’17 and 2018 for Grassroots Coach of the year. TBirds are the Teignbridge Sport, Health & Community Champions 2017, and Coach Ange was also finalist in the Teignbridge Coach of the Year Awards 2017.

Why Us? We aim to solve the problem of back to netball. We want to provide a great experience and to understand the motivations of our participants so that we can help to meet their needs. TBirds welcomes players of 14 years and up (a requirement for entry to the adult netball league) who want to boost their netball skills with emphasis on fun, self confidence and positivity (with no negative self talk).

TBirds offer training sessions on Mondays 7.30-9pm indoors at the Tennis Academy at Trinity School, Teignmouth, East Devon.

Some of our participants join us to just train with us, and others like to train to play in league competition. Some people like to participate to improve their fitness, feel good, have fun, develop themselves, make new friends/ spend time with friends, and/ or compete for success.

TBirds offer a full netball experience for those who wish to develop their skills as coaches and officials, and for those who enjoy social nights too. We enjoy working with volunteers, partners and sponsors and value assistance to continue to develop our successful Club.

The TBirds Netball Players Pledge

1. I will be a warrior - Not making excuses, leaving my bad day at the door. I will wear my heart on my sleeve, a smile on my face and leave everything on the court.

2. I will be a leader – I will have the courage to speak to my coach or captain if I have any concerns instead of holding them in.

3. I will respect the game – Not putting down my team mates or opposition, remembering everyone has their own story and battles.

4. I will play like my 7 year old self is watching me from the sideline – Fearless and free.

5. I will be a good sport on the bench – The ultimate team player, analysing my position like I am on the court playing. Keeping warm - always ready - no sulking.

6. I will get comfortable with the uncomfortable – Knowing my attitude will determine how I perform.

7. I will be curious & creative - I will have my own ideas and opinions and I will share them in a positive way.

8. I will be open to criticism - Always seeking improvement. Instructions may often seem harsh, but I will take it all on board as constructive feedback. Our coaches simply want the best for us.

9. I will be loyal to my team - I will support my team mates on and off the court, at school or in any social environment.

10. I will be humble in victory and be graceful in defeat - learning from every experience and not being afraid to make mistakes.
